In Loving Memory of Michael Jakovich 1960-2003

APRIL CEREMONY IN HONOR OF MR. J
AT THE TOUSSAINT L'OUVERTURE HIGH SCHOOL
IN DELRAY BEACH FLORIDA

On Monday April 12, Karilee, Richard, & Gabe Shames attended a lovely ceremony in honor of Mr. J. at the Toussaint L'Ouverture High School in Delray Beach Florida, where he was a teacher.

The faculty and students had planted a "bed" (one that Michael had used for a bed race the previous year) with beautiful flowers. Elena Jakovich, Michael's wife for eternity, was presented with a very special plaque, which we hope will be installed at the head of the bed.

Since the bed is on wheels, it can be moved to any future school sites.

The plaque attested to Michael's love for students, the educational process, and poetry. It ended with "his heart was too big for this world".

We offer special appreciation to co-principals Diane Allerdyce and Joe Bernal for helping to create a space for the students to complete and acknowledge their love for Michael.

His neckties were passed around, and the school was filled with visions of his students honoring him by wearing his neckties throughout the day.

Leave it to Mr J, just as we gathered for his ceremony, the skies opened up and soaked everyone and everything... he did have that kind of humor!
